Engineers Week Banquet

2018 Engineers Week is scheduled for Feb 18-24, 2018. Planned activities will include a banquet on Thu 2/22/18 at the Jefferson Hotel. Below is information about our 2017 Banquet. Our keynote speaker was Jessica Foley, PhD (Bio) and Dr. Neil Kassell of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation. They explained how Focused Ultrasound allows surgery to be performed without incisions. The technique is proving useful to treat many conditions such as tumors.

Student Essays

The 2017 Student Essay essay contest winners were Keith Tram from Highland Springs HS (Written Essay) and Neil Baptiste from L C Bird HS (Video). Other finalists included Danyelle Sandiford, Garrett Moore, Corey Johnson, and Jennifer Fadul Marin. The contest will be conducted again next year. Speakers and Other Awards

Our keynote speaker, Ms Jessica Foley, PHd Sr is the Chief Scientific Officer for the Focused Ultrasound Foundation in Charlottesville. The mission of the Foundation is to accelerate the development and adoption of this lifesaving technique which employs focused beams of ultrasound to kill tumors  without disturbing the surrounding healthy tissue. Dr Foley presented a convincing case for this relatively new technology.

At the 2017 banquet the Engineer of the Year award was presented to Dr. Wei Zhang, Phd of VCU. The Dr Rodney E Hanneman Community Service Award was presented to Mr Phil Powell,, P.E. Of Dominion Power.

2017 RJEC Chair, Mr John Midyette presented the 2017 Chairs Cup Award to Mr Kurt Thompson
